Miami Driver Crashes into Nursing Home
Authorities have reported that a driver in Miami identified as Enrique Linares, 29, was traveling at about 80 mph, when his car struck the curb and went airborne, crash landing in between the first and second floor of Watercrest Care Center at approximately 1:30 a.m. He died on impact.
Watercrest Care Center is located in North Miami near Northeast 167th Street and West Dixie Highway.
It has been reported that many residents who live in the area said they heard the commotion and an explosion that sounded as if an electrical transformer had blown.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reportedly transported four elderly patients from the nursing facility to an area hospital with minor injuries. All of them have been released and will be OK.
It took several hours, but tow crews have since removed the vehicle from the Watercrest Care Center. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, a tow company and North Miami Beach Police carefully devised a plan to remove the car. The car was pulled from the building at around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Work crews have begun working to repair the building so that residents can return. The impact was forceful that two main beams of the building were shattered in the crash, causing serious damage to the building’s structure. These support beams will need to be repaired before the residents will be able to safely inhabit that area of the building.
