Deadly Motorcycle Accident in Miami

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was critically injured when their bike collided with a car in Miami Sunday, authorities said.

The fatal crash happened near Northwest 7th Street and 37th Avenue when the motorcycle, which was traveling southbound, and a Volkswagen exiting a shopping center somehow crashed, Miami Fire Rescue spokesman stated.

Authorities have stated that two men believed to be in their 20′s were riding on the motorcycle. A female driver, who was not injured in the accident, was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen that was exiting the shopping center.

Upon impact with the automobile the unidentified driver of the motorcycle flew off the bike and onto the street and was later pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger went flying through the windshield of an SUV that was stopped waiting to make a turn into the shopping center.

The man in the SUV stated that he was headed to the store to buy a pair of shoes. His father was accompanying him, in the passenger’s seat.

The unidentified passenger was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was in critical condition late Sunday. Police have said neither man was wearing a helmet.

Investigators are currently trying to figure out what led to the fatal crash and are looking into whether or not the Volkswagen was making an illegal turn onto 37th Avenue. Authorities have stated that they’re doing their interviews with several witnesses who saw the accident and are not ruling anything out. They are also investigating if the driver of the motorcycle was speeding at the time and who may have been at fault for the accident.
