Auto Accident Kills Churchgoers in Florida
An automobile accident involving an out of control large white sports utility vehicle took the lives of several churchgoers and injured others who had just left a service in Bradenton, Florida.
Numerous people were run over by the sport-utility vehicle when, for reasons unknown at this time, it unexpectedly backed up at an extremely high rate of speed and did not stop until it plunged into a creek. Witnesses stated that the truck ran over the top of 5 or 6 people who had gathered outside of the church to talk amongst themselves. Witnesses also stated that they heard the engine of the truck roar to very high levels while attempting to back out of a small parking space.
Some reports have indicated that the age of the driver may have been a contributing factor but it is too early to rule out any other possible factors such as vehicle malfunction. Regardless of the cause of the accident, it resulted in the death of three people and four others who each sustained serious personal injuries.
The sad events in Bradenton show us that operating any motor vehicle in a parking lot requires the driver to remain alert at all times and to use proper care to ensure the safety of the many pedestrians and motor vehicle passengers who are in such close proximity and who may not even be visible to the driver.
